Quality education in Nigeria is getting more expensive by the day and with the growing interests of individuals and organizations in the educational sector and the rapid decline in the state of Nigeria’s economy, the cost of education in the country may continue to skyrocket.

Private universities in Nigeria are often the most expensive set of universities in the country and many Nigerians believe that this is because of the general quality of education which they offer students when compared to other federal and state government-owned universities.

In one of our former articles on this blog, we shared a list of the top 10 most expensive secondary schools in the country and in this article, we’re going to be sharing an updated list of the top 10 most expensive universities in Nigeria right now in 2020.

There is always a price to pay for education but quality education doesn’t come cheap anywhere in the world and this is the belief of many parents who send their children/wards to these Nigerian universities whose tuition fees on the high side.

1) Nile University

The university currently has six faculties, a School of Postgraduate Studies, as well as over 3,700 students. Nile University also offers 26 undergraduate programs and 36 postgraduate programs to students of the institution.

Babcock University is a privately-owned Christian university that is currently owned and run by the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Nigeria. Thus university which is currently located at Ilishan-Remo, Ogun State, Nigeria is one of the most expensive universities in the country with tuition fees ranging from 1Million to – 3Million Naira yearly depending on the department.

The university is also one of the notable educational institutions in Nigeria with nine schools and one college. Located in Okada, Edo State, Nigeria, Igbinedion University is a private university in Nigeria that was established in 1999. This university which is also the first private university in the country was founded by Sir Gabriel Osawaru Igbinedion CFR, a billionaire, philanthropist, and a popular Chief in Benin kingdom.

7) Afe Babalola University

Afe Babalola University (ABUAD) is a private Nigerian university located in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, Nigeria. It is one of the first privately-owned tertiary institutions in Nigeria and was founded by a lawyer and philanthropist, Afe Babalola, in the year 2009.

The university currently has around six academic colleges and a student population of over 8,500 students. ABUAD also has an estimated staff population of around 1,300 staff working in the university and over 50 courses as of 2020.

8) Covenant University

Covenant University is a very popular private university in Nigeria which was established by the Living Faith Worldwide Bible Church in 2002. It is located is at Ota, Ogun State, Nigeria, and the university is also ranked as one of the best universities in Nigeria as of 2020.

Although this university is one of the most expensive universities in the country, graduates, and undergraduates of this university are known to be academically sound due to the quality of education they receive both academically and spiritually since it’s a Christian university.

9) Benson Idahosa University

Bowen University is a privately owned and operated Baptist Christian Nigerian university which is located in Iwo, Osun State, Nigeria. It was established in 2001 by the Nigerian Baptist Convention and is housed in the old 1,300-acre (6 km²) campus of the Baptist College.
