How To Transfer Airtime On Airtel (Guide)

If you’ve been looking for a guide on how to transfer credit or airtime on Airtel Nigeria, then you’re reading the right article as we will be discussing that in a moment.

transfer airtime on airtel

Airtel Nigeria is one of the biggest telecoms companies in Nigeria right now. According to the Subscribers statistics released by Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) sometime in August this year, Airtel Nigeria possesses up to 26.8% of the mobile telephone market share and it currently has over 46 million subscribers.

Many mobile subscribers in Nigeria have often complained about the need to have a dedicated platform in which they can use to send airtime or credit from their own prepaid account. In response to that, Airtel and some other Nigerian telecom companies like Glo, MTN, and 9Mobile provided dedicated USSD codes for that.

The platform to transfer airtime of Airtel ins called ME2U (Me To You) and this platform can be accessed with a dedicated USSD code.

What Is Airtel ME2U?

Airtel ME2U is simply a service that was created by Airtel Nigeria some time ago and its main purpose is to allow subscribers on the Airtel platform to transfer Airtime to other Airtel users.

The only major disadvantage of this service is that you CANT share your airtime or credit with an MTN or Glo or Etisalat user. But other than that, the service works great.

Below are some things you need to know about the Airtel ME2U service.

  1. The maximum airtime amount which you can share daily is 5,000 Naira
  2. The default ME2U pin of any Airtel sim card is 1234
  3. You can change the ME2U pin to whatever you like
  4. The pin is used to authorize a transfer and without it, you cant use the service
  5. Each successful transfer costs a 10 Naira

How To Change My ME2U Pin From The Default One?

To prevent unauthorized airtime transfers from your Airtel SIM card, you need to change the default ME2U PIN from the default on to a new one.

If you’re interested in changing the ME2U default PIN to prevent someone from transferring your credit without telling you, follow the step by step guide outlined below.

  • Open the “Messages” app which is mostly located on the home screen
  • Click on Create Message or Write Message
  • Send a message like this — PIN 1234 [New PIN] — to 432 without brackets. Let’s say you want to change the default pin to 2322, your message should be in this format — PIN 1234 2322 — to 432.
  • If your application was successful, you will get a message on your PIN Change confirmation.

Note – If you want to change your pin that is not the default one, send PIN [Old PIN] [New PIN] — to 432 without brackets. E.G, is your former pin was 2322 and you want to change it to 3354, your message should be in this format — PIN 2322 3354 — to 432.

Most times, the above method works and if it doesn’t work for you, there is still an alternative method and that’s using the Airtel toolkit service.

To change your ME2U PIN code with the SIM Toolkit app, then follow the step by step guide below.

  • Look for the SIM Toolkit app on your device. This app comes preinstalled on all mobile devices so it SHOULD be on your phone.
  • Click on “Airtel Services
  • On the next screen click “ME 2 U
  • Select “Change PIN
  • Enter default PIN which is 1234 if it is your first time and your OLD PIN if you’ve changed your PIN Code before
  • Chose a new PIN and click “Save Changes

One of these two methods of changing your ME2U PIN should work and if it doesn’t work for you, then you need to contact Airtel Customer Care Agents.

If you succeeded in changing your PIN Code, follow the guide below to transfer airtime on airtel for the first time.
